Midsummer Coupé

A landmark commission that reimagines the Midsummer concept through contemporary coachbuilding, advanced engineering and deeply personal commissioning.

A defining chapter in Morgan's coachbuilding evolution.

Midsummer Coupé represents a defining chapter in Morgan’s coachbuilding evolution. Designed in collaboration with Pininfarina and limited to just nine client commissions, it transforms the original Midsummer concept into a fixed-head grand touring interpretation with its own distinct identity.

Far more than the addition of a roof, Midsummer Coupé explores new proportions, greater visual tension and a more resolved silhouette. Conceived from the outset as an integrated design and engineering programme, it combines contemporary construction techniques with the handcrafted character synonymous with Morgan.

Each commission is developed individually through close collaboration between client and Morgan. The result is a collection of highly personal vehicles that demonstrate the breadth of possibility within modern coachbuilding.

Design Notes

A Cohesive Vision.

Defining a new Silhouette

The introduction of a fixed-head architecture allowed designers to explore dramatically different proportions, creating a more purposeful and visually resolved interpretation of the Midsummer design language.

Crafted Precision

From the billet-machined aluminium beltline to the expansive glazed canopy, technical precision is balanced with flowing coachbuilt surfaces, creating a distinctive interplay between engineering and craftsmanship.

Philosophy

Evolving the Art of Coachbuilding

Midsummer Coupé demonstrates how Morgan’s coachbuilding philosophy continues to evolve. Combining advanced engineering, contemporary design and human craftsmanship, it explores what becomes possible when creative ambition and technical innovation are developed in parallel.

Conceived Through Collaboration

Building on the relationship established during the original Midsummer project, Morgan and Pininfarina worked together to challenge assumptions, explore new possibilities and create a vehicle neither could have achieved independently.

Engineering as Craft

Structural innovation was fundamental to the project. Every major component was designed to fulfil multiple roles, contributing simultaneously to aesthetics, usability and vehicle performance.

A Canvas for Individual Expression

Each commission begins with a personal brief. Through close consultation with Morgan’s design team, every vehicle develops its own identity, ensuring no two interpretations are alike.

Beyond the Commissions

Beyond the nine commissions themselves, Midsummer Coupé provides an opportunity to explore new techniques, materials and ideas that may influence future Morgan vehicles.

Pushing the Boundaries

A Bold New Expression

Midsummer Coupé is a bold new expression of contemporary coachbuilding. Advanced aluminium structures, bonded glazing and integrated glass architecture demand new skills, techniques and levels of precision. Combining contemporary engineering with handcrafted metalwork, the project helps develop the knowledge and specialist expertise of Morgan’s designers, engineers and craftspeople, strengthening the capabilities that underpin future commissions.

"Midsummer Coupé began with a conversation. A client came to us with an idea and, rather than asking how closely we could meet that brief, we asked ourselves how far we could take it."
